In the late 1990s, John shifted his interests towards major incidents and crisis management, especially those that may involve significant threat to the public. John has developed many brands over his career and is also a partner in a number of other businesses related to management consultancy and publishing.
John has taught reputation management and related disciplines in over 30 countries. He is also the author of many books and has published countless business and economic articles. In 2012 John contributed to a major book on Reputation Management, published by Bloomsbury, along with some of the leading authorities in crisis and reputation management globally.
John’s particular interest is in how organisations can build reputational capabilities in order to make themselves more resilient against risks and emerging issues. An enthusiastic advocate of critical-thinking and scenario-planning, John has developed a special method of training that prompts clients to think about their brands and how they secure and improve them in an age of social media and rapid change.
In addition to teaching, John also provides consultancy services to multinational companies, in particular from within the pharmaceutical and oil industries, as well as advising NGOs and foreign governments. As a member of the International Institute of Strategic Studies, John has a keen interest in reputations and risks posed by international security threats to corporations and NGOs.
In 2012 John also became Director of the Centre for Issue and Crisis Management, which acts as both a think tank and an advisory service to multinational corporations exploring global risks to their brands. John has been instrumental in extending the scope of traditional reputation management by encouraging organisations and NGOs to be more aware and informed of how geopolitical events can impact on brands and their operations.
John is author of much of LSPR’s course content and is strongly involved with much of the training and professional guidance given to clients and course participants. A powerful and motivating lecturer and speaker, John’s approach has been fundamental to LSPR’s success in the UK and globally. John has extensive experience of live TV and radio, including the BBC and Al-Jazeera, and has provided advice to clients on message framing and personal brand development.
Through the 1990s, John expanded and took LSPR to over 17 global franchises including; Slovenia, Croatia, Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro, Bulgaria, Turkey, India, Syria, Russia, Belorussia, Georgia, Czech Republic, Malaysia, Poland and Latvia.
John is always happy to spend time helping clients and students to develop their knowledge and capabilities. More recently he has turned his attention to social media and influence, crisis leadership, and personal branding. As a fellow of the Institute of Training and Occupational Learning, John has a keen interest in training and ensuring that complex issues and topics are broken down and made manageable and simple so that busy people can swiftly absorb new skills and capabilities.
